We knew it was coming. The cool May weather couldn’t last forever. and now summer has finally descended on us. My poor body has not had time to adjust and is not ready to work in the hot sun.
With last Sunday’s weather predicted to be hot and sunny we knew we had to adapt our harvest schedule to beat the heat.
So, at 3:30 AM our alarm went off waking us from sleep. We were out in the tunnels by 4:00 with our headlamps on. Our goal was to finish by 7:00 and we almost made it. We finished washing the last of the carrots by 7:30.
We separated all the veggies into brown paper bags with your name labels on them, packed them into insulated delivery bags, and put them all in the fridge. Then we cleaned up all our harvest, washing, and packing gear dried it, and put it away.
Whew! By noon the lack of sleep had caught up to us and it was time for a nap!
How do the changing seasons affect your everyday life? Do you use any strategies for beating the heat? Do you cook less and eat more sandwiches and salad? We would love to hear from you. Answer below in the comments.
